TEAN, UPPER and LOWER, (Staffordshire) near the Tayne-water, bet. Cheadle and Checkley, bel. formerly to the Bekes, afterwards to the Swinertons, and then was divided bet. the Peshalls and Savages. The former part came at length to Sir Rowland Lacon, and the latter was at length sold to Mr. Wilburnham of Namptwich. On the W. side of the r. bet. these two ps. is an unaccountable spring, called the well in the wall, which, according to the report of Mr. Wood, whose seat was here, rises under a rock, and throws out all the year round, except in July and August, small bones of different sorts, like those of sparrows or chickens.
