VALENCE, (Essex) near Dagenham, the manor of John-Henry Mertins, Esq; to the N. E. of Barking-Abbey, whose abbess the
tenant of it was formerly obliged to attend with 2 horses, whenever her ladyship had a mind to ride out. In the chancel of
its Ch. is an epitaph, scarce to be parallel'd, on (Tho. Bonham,Esq;) a Poet, who was also Ld. of this manor.
