WARMINGTON, (Warwickshire) 1 m. N. E. of Edgehill, bel. anciently to a mon. in Normandy; and being seized, with other alien-priories, by Edward III. to enable him to carry on his war with France, was farmed by the prior of Tofts in Norfolk. It afterwards bel. to the mon. of Witham in Somersetshire; but at the Diss. Henry VIII. granted it to Will. and Fr. Sheldon, from whom it afterwards passed to Sir John Brown, who conveyed it to Will. Byrt, &c. Near this place, at the end of the hills, is a large square military intrenchment, of about 32 acres, where a brazen sword and battle-ax were dug up some years ago.
