Sibdon Carwood Registers.
The Parish Register Abstract, 1831, contains the following return of the Sibdon Parish Registers:- "Sibdon P.C. No. I. Bap., Bur., 1580-1804, Marr., 1580-1753. No. II Bap., Bur., 1805-1812. No. III. Marr., 1754- 1812". These three Registers are still existing.
The First Register book of Sibdon begins in 1582, and ends in 1807. It is parchment, and written in English. There are 32 leaves, with cover, which is part of an old deed of John Minton's. There are gaps in the Register from 1602 to 1610, 1627 to 1639, 1653 to 1671, and 1706 to 1713, and the top of leaves 29, 30, 31, 32, are torn off and lost. It is in good condition, except leaves 2 and 9, which are much faded.
The Second Register book (called No. III, above) begins in 1755, and ends 1871. It contains Banns and Marriages only. It is of paper, and has 29 leaves.
The Third Register book (called No. II. above) begins in 1805, and ends 1812. It is parchment, and contains Baptisms and Burials only, and has two leaves.
The most important entries in the Registers are those relating to the families of Corbet, Langford. and Fleming. Other entries of interest are those of Paramore. Marston, Hotchkiss, Burd, Gough, and Weaver. The Clergy named in the Registers are as follows:-

The first Curate of Sibdon, named in the Diocesan Registers, belongs to the year 1587. Sibdon, which in Domesday is written Sibetune and was held by Picot de Sai. was a chapelry of Chin. At the end of the eleventh century the advowson passed to Wenlock Priory, whilst Shrewsbury Abbey held two-thirds of the demesne tithes. The chapel was dedicated to St. Michael. It was re-endowed by Henry Knox, a Lord of the Manor, and was usually served by the Vicar of Clunbury. Sibdon Carwood is in Purslow Hundred, and in the Rural Deanery of Clun, the patronage (with Halford, which was joined to it by Order in Council in 1842), being in the gift of Lord Windsor and the Rev. Henry Fleming Baxter alternately. In 1821, Sibdon contained 10 houses and 61 inhabitants; in 1881 the population was 67. The Church was re-built in 1741, and in 1871 a new apse was built, and the Church thoroughly restored. There are no important monuments, but several stones to members of the Fleming and Baxter families, who are buried in the chancel. The present Vicar was appointed to the parishes of Sibdon Carwood and Halford, in 1885, on the presentation of Lord Windsor.
The Registers are here printed by the kind permission of the Rev. Henry Fleming Baxter, of Sibdon Castle, the present Vicar. The proofs, as they passed through the press, have been compared with the first Register by Miss Auden, and with the second and third Registers by the Vicar. The Registers were transcribed by a gentleman who has most kindly undertaken the transcription of all the Registers in the Deanery of Clun.
