SalopBackgroundI've been able to gain access to a number of Shropshire parish registers printed for the Shropshire Parish Register Society in the early 20th century. The books are out of copyright and I've decided to re-publish the registers in web form to make them more accessible to scholars and family researchers. The Shropshire Parish Register Society did a great job in publishing Shropshire Parish Registers for which all family history researchers should be grateful. Their collection is summarised as follows:
TranscriptionsThe transcriptions which follow have been made available for private, non-profit-making, use subject to the conditions of use applying to my website. This website is being used to hold the work in progress but as the transcriptions are finalised they are being placed on the Shropshire pages of GENUKI to ensure their long-term security. Note that, during transcription, no attempt has been made to correct or interpret entries. Spelling has been left as written in the originals, and unreadable characters have been replaced or followed by a query (?). The indexes included by the Shropshire Parish Register Society with each parish have been omitted (but might be added at a later date if sufficient interest is shown). Benefices (in this case, parishes) in Shropshire, were under the control of the dioceses of Lichfield, Hereford, and St. Asaph. - LichfieldThe registers which follow were published by the Shropshire Parish Register Society as a series of volumes covering Shropshire parishes in the Diocese of Lichfield. -- Lichfield Volume 1The first volume of the Registers of the Diocese of Lichfield contains the Registers of Battlefield, Pitchford, Smethcote, Stapleton, Moreton Corbet, Albrighton (by Shrewsbury) and Broughton. I have split this, first, volume so that each parish is published in its own web page, and I have added a page containing the introduction written by the Shropshire Parish Register Society. -- Lichfield Volume 2The second volume of the Registers of the Diocese of Lichfield contains the Registers of Harley, Sheinton, Cressage, Kenley, Cound, Longdon-upon-Tern and Grinshill. I have split this, second, volume so that each parish is published in its own web page, and I have added a page containing the introduction written by the Shropshire Parish Register Society. -- Lichfield Volume 3The third volume of the Registers of the Diocese of Lichfield contains the Registers of Albrighton (by Wolverhampton), Boningale, Donington and White Ladies. I have split this, third, volume so that each parish is published in its own web page, and I have added a page containing the introduction written by the Shropshire Parish Register Society. -- Lichfield Volume 4The fourth volume of the Registers of the Diocese of Lichfield contains the Registers of Fitz, Frodesley, Uppington, Tong and Adderley. I have split this, fourth, volume so that each parish is published in its own web page, and I have added a page containing the introduction written by the Shropshire Parish Register Society. -- Lichfield Volume 5The fifth volume of the Registers of the Diocese of Lichfield contains the Registers of Astley, Ruyton-in-the-Eleven-Towns, Withington, Leebotwood, Stirchley, Longnor, and Uffington. I have split this, fifth, volume so that each parish is published in its own web page, and I have added a page containing the introduction written by the Shropshire Parish Register Society. -- Lichfield Volume 6The sixth volume of the Registers of the Diocese of Lichfield is devoted exclusively to the Register of Condover. I have therefore included with the Register, the introduction written by the Shropshire Parish Register Society. -- Lichfield Volume 13The thirteenth volume of the Registers of the Diocese of Lichfield contains the Registers of Edgmond, Tibberton, Waters Upton, Great Bolas, and Eaton Constantine. I have split this, thirteenth, volume so that each parish is published in its own web page, and I have added a page containing the introduction written by the Shropshire Parish Register Society. - HerefordThe registers which follow were published by the Shropshire Parish Register Society as a series of volumes covering Shropshire parishes in the Diocese of Hereford. Note that elsewhere on this website, the institutions recorded in the registers of the bishops of Hereford have been provided for each benefice. -- Hereford Volume 5The fifth volume of the Registers of the Diocese of Hereford contains the Registers of Bromfield, Greete, Bedstone, Middleton Scriven, Deuxhill and Glazeley, Habberley, Cardeston, and Ratlinghope. I have split this, fifth, volume so that each parish is published in its own web page, and I have added a page containing the introduction written by the Shropshire Parish Register Society.
Parishes and Registration DistrictsTo assist researchers, I've added a table showing the cross reference between Parishes (or Townships) and Registration Districts in Shropshire after 1837. |
