Note for the Reader.

The present is the eighth volume of the Registers of the Diocese of St. Asaph which has been completed by the Shropshire Parish Register Society. It contains the Registers of Llanymynech and St. Martins. The Registers of all the ancient parishes of the Diocese of St. Asaph (lately transferred to Lichfield) have now been printed by the Society.

In this, as in previous volumes, the entries are printed in abstract form, all mere verbiage being omitted, although every fact is recorded, and all items, other than the usual entries of Baptisms, Marriages and Burials, being printed in full. For the abbreviations adopted, reference must be made to the " Notes to the Reader " at the beginning of the earlier volumes.

For the transcript of Llanymynech and the first five volumes of St. Martins our thanks are due to Miss Rachel Leighton, who has also collated the proof-sheets with the original Registers, and passed them through the press. Volumes VI and VII were copied and seen through the press by the Rev. W.G.D. Fletcher, who is also responsible for the Corrigenda on pages xi to xiii of the Introduction. The Indexes were compiled by Miss B.A. Hughes and Miss A.M. MacLeod, the Index Nominum to St. Martins presenting considerable difficulty owing to the numerous Welsh names.

Thanks are due to the Incumbents of Llanymynech and St. Martins for leave to print their Registers, and for facilities afforded in the transcription and collation.
